[network] Bloglines is an RSS reader that moves with you

In an earlier article I described blogging and RSS (real simple syndication). You use an RSS reader to collect stories from all over the network. In regular intervals, your RSS reader polls the sites and collects the new stuff that is published by those sites. This stuff could be blog items for example, news items on any site, or podcasts. Most sites with fresh content have an RSS feed these days. On this blog you can see a link to the Atom/RSS feed to paste in your reader.

I started using Feedreader, but soon found out that if you have several computers you work on, you want to use a reader on all of them, and want to share your reading history over those computers. That means that if you have read an article on one computer, you do not want it to pop up as unread on another.

This calls for an ASP approach to RSS reading. I scanned a few services, amongst others my.yahoo.com, and now settled on Bloglines. It has an interface that is almost as simple as Google's. What I like as a reader is that it is also nice on a PDA with a limited screen size. Also convenient will be that you can have a button on a website that will more or less autosubscribe you. You will find such a button on this blog as well ("sub bloglines").
In addition, Bloglines has tons of other interesting features, such as search and mail feeds. Check it out.
