[network] There is a market Jim, but not as we know it
At the annual Business Meeting Telecom in The Hague yesterday, the future of the telecommunications industry was discussed under the catch phrase: "The struggle for the client". Senior managers from the telecommunications, media and content industry gathered to exchange views. Although everybody agreed that there is 'convergence', opinions differed on how this would play out. Edwin van Huis of the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision could be quoted as saying "Telco's do not understand [program] formats". On the other hand, Jeroen Hoencamp of Vodafone predicted that the mobile entertainment market (in a number of European countries) , already bigger that the CD single market at 4 billion Euro, would surpass the recorded music market in 2007 and the movie industry in 2009. The mobile operators apparently understand something of the market.
Yes, it's life Jim, but not as we know it.
